In just 24 games, the New York Knicks have established themselves as a formidable team. They lead their division with a 19-6 record and sit atop Eastern Conference. This is a solid improvement from their slow start roughly a year ago. As a team, defense has become of more importance as they are only allowing the opposition to score 96.6 points per game. They are ranked 11th overall in that category. Rebounding is an area that needs a boost to bump them up the ranks. By shooting so many threes and only being ranked 28th in rebounding, they’ll get exposed against better rebounding teams. Rebounds can sometimes make or break a game as a lost bucket can lead to points for the opposing side. The return of Amare Stoudemire could play a major factor in that category since the team befalls most of the rebounding duty to starting center Tyson Chandler.
Overall the team is having the positive start that fans have patiently been waiting for. The Knicks have beaten and embarrassed their conference rivals and reigning champions – the Miami Heat twice. Team chemistry is clicking and their star player Carmelo Anthony is finally playing like the super star he is. With everyone playing their part, they are ranked 5th overall in scoring with 102.9 points per game. If they keep up this pace of winning games and defeating the big boys, there isn’t a single reason why this team can’t be included in the championship talks.
